The Penha De Franca Church & Wedding Hall is one of Goa's most loved and historic waterfront wedding venues. The phrase "Penha de Franca" gets its name from Nossa Senhora da Penha de Franca (Our Lady of the Rock of France) who was held in very high regard by Portuguese seafarers, who had managed to survive the tough voyage to India. Here onwards Nossa Senhora da Penha de Franca became a kind of patron saint for sailors. The church was built in 1626 AD and the entire cost of construction was managed by a widow named Ana de Azavedo. She was a Franciscan Tertiary. However, the structure collapsed in 1651 AD and was again built up in 1655 AD. It was finally awarded the status of a national monument in 1932. With a high-vaulted ceiling and simple but beautifully done up interiors, the church makes for a captivating sight.
The Penha De Franca Church & Wedding Hall is the perfect venue for Catholic couples who wish to have a waterfront wedding in Goa. The well maintained church interiors are a testimony to the craftsmanship of the Portuguese in Goa. The open-air wedding hall is located on the shores of the sparkling Mandovi river with fresh green lawns, a gleaming danefloor and permanent fixtures used for weddings in Goa. It is perfect for wedding reception parties, anniversaries, engagements and birthday parties.
